Are You Ready to Run?

It’s that time of year again, OTF!

Marathon Month at OTF! Whether you're a seasoned member or a newbie, Marathon Month is an incredible opportunity to challenge yourself, achieve new milestones, and bond with fellow team. If you’re wondering how to make the most of it, or if you’re considering joining for the first time, I’ve got you covered.

What is Marathon Month?

Marathon Month is a unique event where Orangetheory members can track their running (or walking) distances over the course of a month. The goal is to complete a distance equivalent to a full marathon (26.2 miles), half marathon (13.1 miles), or an ultra-marathon (31.1 miles). It's a fantastic way to set a fitness goal and stay motivated throughout the month.

Why You Should Join

  1. Accountability and Motivation: Committing to a challenge like Marathon Month keeps you accountable. You’ll find yourself more motivated to show up and push your limits.

  2. Sense of Community: Orangetheory is all about community. Marathon Month brings members together, creating a supportive environment where everyone encourages each other.

  3. Personal Achievement: There’s nothing like the feeling of completing a marathon, half marathon, or ultra-marathon. It’s a tangible achievement that you can be proud of.

  4. Improved Fitness: Consistent participation in Marathon Month will improve your cardiovascular health, endurance, and overall fitness.

How to Prepare

  1. Set a Goal: Decide which distance you want to aim for. Be realistic but also challenge yourself. Whether it’s a full marathon or a half marathon, having a clear goal will keep you focused. Think about what you typically get in a class, multiply that distance by 12 (3 classes/week for 4 weeks) and aim for a reasonable challenge! Maybe it’s your opportunity to up the challenge to a full or ultra!

  2. Create a Plan: Break down the total distance into manageable chunks. For example, if you’re aiming for a full marathon, plan to run or walk about 6.55 miles a week. If you take 3 classes per week at about 2.2 miles per class, you’re set! Just break it down and set a goal!

  3. Mix It Up: Use Orangetheory’s training to your advantage. Take advantage of the different modalities in your tread workouts! Endurance will help you move nonstop at a more steady pace; strength will help you strengthen your legs for your next runs, helping you run farther and faster; power allows you to run faster, covering more distance in less time! Try adding just a tiny bit to your base pace and you’ll hit your goal in no time!

  4. Track Your Progress: Keep a log of your distances. Many studios provide tracking sheets or your coaches will help you keep track when you finish class. Seeing your progress will keep you motivated.

Tips for Success

  1. Consistency is Key: Try to stay consistent with your workouts. Even on days when you’re not feeling 100%, showing up and doing a little is better than doing nothing.

  2. Listen to Your Body: It’s important to push yourself, but also to listen to your body. Rest when you need to and avoid overtraining.

  3. Fuel Right: Eating a balanced diet and staying hydrated will help you perform better and recover faster.

  4. Get Social: Share your progress on social media using Orangetheory hashtags. Engage with other members and celebrate each other’s successes.
